Alaska was inspired by the high contrast
of the broken ice floating in the glacier-bound
waters and the densely-wooded cliffs reflected
in the water. The ice seems luminous and unearthly.
Weiss chose this transparent watercolor (all
the whites are the whites of the paper) to represent
her work in 2008 at the Saitama Museum of Art
in Saitama, Japan. It was also in her solo
show at the Charles Allis Art Museum, Milwaukee.
The earthy colors are enhanced by being
mounted on rich natural linen. Framed in
gray-washed ash, image size 40" x 26",
it is 47" x 33" overall.
